supervillainはsuper-「上に・超えて」+ villainです。villainは古フランス語経由で後期ラテン語villanus「農園の使用人」に由来し、粗野な人から「悪党」へ意味が変わりました。だから「悪人を超えた大悪党」となり、villainyも同系です。
Supervillain combines super-, meaning "above" or "beyond," with villain. Villain came through Old French from Late Latin villanus, originally meaning a farm servant or someone from an estate. Its sense later shifted from a low or rough person to a wicked person, so supervillain means a villain raised to an extreme level.
