Memory Tip
swim はまず swimmer(泳ぐ人)や swimming(水泳)とセットで覚えると核がぶれません。 go for a swim で『ひと泳ぎする』、swim in a pool / river の形も頻出。
Learn `swim` with the word family `swimmer` and `swimming`. Keep one clear image: moving through water by yourself. It also helps to fix the forms together: `swim - swam - swum`.
例文
I swim in the pool.
He swims across the river.
She swims to the shore.

Etymology
"Swim" comes from Old English "swimman," from an older Germanic root meaning to move or float in water. At first, it referred broadly to moving through water, and that basic idea later became the modern sense of swimming. Related words like "swimmer" and "swimming" keep the same root.
