解説 Definition
提示された申し出や頼みを受け入れる人を指します。相手が差し出すものや条件を受け取ったり応じたりする立場です。特に契約や約束を快く受け入れる人に対して使われます。
A taker is a person who takes or receives something. The word is often used in set expressions such as "risk-taker" or when comparing someone who gives with someone who mainly receives. By itself, it is less common than in compound words.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
take「取る」に -er「する人」が付いて、まずは「取る人」と機械的に分けると意味が立ちます。giver が「与える人」なら taker はその反対側で「受け取る人・申し出に乗る人」。会話では any takers? が頻出で、「この条件で受ける人いる？」という募集の場面を思い浮かべると残ります。receiver よりやや口語的で、その場で差し出された提案・頼み・役目を引き受ける感じ。take an offer, take the deal など take を含む表現と一緒に覚えると忘れにくいです。
Break it into `take` + `-er`, meaning "a person who takes." It often feels like the opposite of `giver`, so that pair is easy to remember together. A useful real phrase is `Any takers?`, used when someone asks who wants to accept an offer or job.

taker は take に「〜する人」を表す接尾辞 -er が付いた語です。take は古ノルド語 taka「つかむ・取る」に由来するので、taker は本来「手に取る人」で、そこから「受け手・受取人」の意味になり、関連語に intake や takeover があります。
Taker is built from take and the suffix -er, which means "a person who does something." Take came into English from Old Norse taka, meaning "to seize" or "to grasp."
