起こっている、発生している、進行中である（transpireの現在分詞）。植物が根から吸収した水分を蒸気として放出する生理作用をも表す。
Transpiring means happening or taking place. It is a formal word often used when describing events, situations, or what is currently unfolding. It is more common in written or serious contexts than in everyday conversation.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
transpiring は「今まさに起こっている」を少し硬めに言う形。まず基本形 transpire を happen の改まった言い方として覚えると定着しやすい。what transpired? で「何が起きたのか」、what is transpiring? なら「何が進行中か」。-ing が付いて進行中の形。news reports や behind the scenes など、出来事の展開を客観的に述べる場面で見かけやすい。perspiring（汗をかいている）とつづりが似るので混同注意。植物の文脈では「蒸散している」にもなる。

transpiring は trans-「越えて」と、spirare「息をする・蒸気を出す」に由来します。もとは「外へ立ちのぼる」が核で、そこから物事が目の前で起こる意味に広がりました。spirit や respiration も同じ spir- を含みます。
Transpiring comes from transpire, from Latin trans- "through" or "across" and spirare "to breathe." It first suggested vapor or breath passing out into the air. From that sense of something emerging or coming out, it later developed the meaning "to happen" or "to become known"; spirit and respiration share the same root.
