治療の必要性や緊急度に基づいて患者を分類する医療プロセスです。限られた医療資源を効率的に配分するため、緊急度の高い患者から優先的に治療を行います。
Triage is the process of deciding the order in which people should receive medical treatment based on how urgent their condition is. It is especially used in hospitals, disasters, and emergencies when time or resources are limited. More broadly, it can also mean prioritizing urgent problems first.

triage はフランス語 triage「選別」から入り、動詞 trier「えり分ける」に由来する。もとは物を仕分ける語で、戦場医療で患者を重症度ごとに選別する意味へ特化した。関連語は try、trial。
Triage came into English from French triage, meaning "sorting," from the verb trier, "to pick out" or "to sort." It first referred to separating things into groups. Later, especially in military medicine, it became the word for sorting wounded patients by urgency and chance of survival.
