uncultured は un-「否定」+ cultured です。culture はラテン語 colere「耕す・育てる・世話する」に由来し、cultivate や agriculture も同根なので、もとは「耕されていない」が比喩で「教養が育っていない」になりました。
Uncultured is formed from un- and cultured. Culture comes from Latin colere, meaning "to cultivate, care for, or grow," the same root seen in cultivate and agriculture. The idea first referred to land that was not cultivated, then later was used metaphorically for a person whose mind or manners had not been "grown" or refined.
