文明化されていない、または教養や礼儀を欠いていて粗野だという意味の形容詞。社会や地域については「未開の」、人の言動や態度については「野蛮な」「無作法な」という意味で使われる。やや古風で価値判断を含む語でもある。
Uncivilised means not showing the standards of polite, educated, or socially developed behavior that a speaker expects. It is often found in older writing, and when used about people or cultures, it can sound judgmental or offensive.

Build it from `civil`, meaning polite or socially well-behaved. Add `un-`, and you get the idea of being not civil, not cultured, or not socially developed. It helps to compare it with `uncivil`: `uncivil` is simply rude, but `uncivilised` is stronger and heavier. Also remember the spelling with `-s-` is British; American English usually writes `uncivilized`.

uncivilised の語源・成り立ち Etymology
un-「〜でない」+ civilise「文明化する」+ -ed。civil はラテン語 civis「市民」からフランス語経由で入り、もとは「市民らしく整える」感覚です。civil、civilization も同根で、「文明化されていない」から未開の意になりました。
Uncivilised is made from un- plus civilised. Civilised comes from civil, which came through French from Latin civis, meaning "citizen." The older idea was of becoming orderly or polished in the way of city life, and then the negative form developed the sense of "not made civil or refined."
