unfairness は un-「〜でない」+ fair「公正な」+ -ness「性質」で、中心の fair は古英語 fæger に由来します。fair や fairly も同根で、もとは「見て気持ちよい」が「偏りのない」に伸びたと分かると、不公平が“釣り合いの悪さ”として腑に落ちます。
