行端をそろえていない
adjective 形容詞印刷や文書編集で、文字間隔を調整して行の両端をそろえる処理が施されていないことをいう。unjustified text のように使い、「根拠がない」ではなく、行端が不ぞろいになっている技術的な状態を表す。
正当な理由や根拠がない状態を示します。何かが適切に説明されたり正当化されたりしていないことを意味します。
If something is unjustified, there is no good reason for it or it cannot be fairly supported. It is commonly used for criticism, actions, decisions, or expenses that seem wrong or unnecessary. The word often carries a strong negative judgment.
justify「正当化する」を知っていれば、justified は「理由が立つ・筋が通る」、unjustified はその否定で「理由が立たない」と整理すると覚えやすいです。just, justice と同じグループの語だと意識すると形も残ります。unfair が単に「不公平」なのに対し、unjustified は「十分な根拠や説明がない」が中心。unjustified criticism, fears, price increase のように、批判・不安・値上げが『正当化できない』場面と結び付けると定着します。
Build it from `justify`. If something is `justified`, there is a good reason for it; `unjustified` means that reason is missing. Link it with words like `just` and `justice`, and remember common pairs such as `unjustified criticism` or `unjustified fears`.
The criticism was unjustified and hurt her feelings.
その批判は不当で、彼女の気持ちを傷つけました。
He made an unjustified claim without any evidence.
彼は証拠もなく根拠のない主張をしました。
The decision seemed unjustified to most employees.
その決定は多くの従業員には不当なものに思えました。

unjustified は un-「否定」+ justify「正当化する」+ -ed から成ります。justify はラテン語 iustus「正しい」+ facere「作る」に由来し、justice や just も同根なので、「正しいものにできない」ことが「不当な・正当化できない」に通じます。
Unjustified is formed from un-, justified, and the adjective ending -ed. Justify comes from Latin iustus "just, right" and facere "to make," so it originally meant "to make just." From there, unjustified came to mean something that cannot be shown to be right; related words include just and justice.
