解説 Definition
スポーツの大会で、優先的な配置（シード）を与えられていないことを表す形容詞です。選手、チーム、競技者などが大会前の順位づけでシード枠に入っていない場合に使います。
In sports and competitions, unseeded means not officially ranked as one of the top players or teams before the event starts. An unseeded player usually does not get special placement in the draw. The word is most common in tennis and tournament contexts.

un-「〜でない」+ seeded から成る形容詞です。seed は古英語 sēd（種）にさかのぼり、スポーツでは強者を散らして配置する「シード」の意になったので、unseeded は「その扱いを受けていない」、つまりノーシードです。関連語は seed, seeding。
