言語学では音節にアクセントが置かれていない状態。また、精神的にストレスを感じていない状態も指す。
If someone is unstressed, they feel calm and not worried or under pressure. It is used in everyday English for a relaxed mental state. In language study, unstressed can also mean a sound or syllable that is not strongly emphasized.

まず stress「圧・緊張・強調」を知っていれば覚えやすい語です。un- は「〜ない」なので、unstressed は直感的に「圧や強調がない」。日常語では stressed person が「張りつめている人」、unstressed は「落ち着いていて気負っていない」。言語学では stressed syllable「強勢のある音節」と対で覚えるとよく、unstressed syllable は弱く短く読まれがち。relaxed に近い場面もありますが、unstressed は『ストレスがかかっていない／強勢が置かれていない』という中立的な言い方です。
Think of `stress` first, then add `un-` for "not." So `unstressed` means either "without stress" or, in pronunciation, "without emphasis." Remember the pair `stressed syllable` and `unstressed syllable` to lock in both uses.
