contextually
文脈的に
解説 Definition
文脈に即して、前後関係を考慮した形で。状況に応じた解釈や判断をする際に使う。
Contextually means in a way that depends on the context, or the surrounding words, situation, or background. It is used when the full meaning of something can only be understood by looking at what is around it.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
まず context を核に置いて覚えるとよいです。意味を一点で決めるのでなく、前後の流れ・場面・条件まで含めて読む感覚が contextually。contextual が「文脈上の」で、-ly が付くと「文脈に即して」という判断のしかたを表す副詞になります。literally が字面どおりに固定する方向なら、contextually は周囲の情報で意味を調整する方向。interpret contextually, contextually appropriate, understand it in context などの言い方と結び付けると定着しやすいです。
Keep `context` at the center. `Contextual` means related to context, and `contextually` means "in a way that depends on the context." If `literally` sticks to the exact words, `contextually` looks at the surrounding situation.

contextually の語源・成り立ち Etymology
contextually は context に -ual と -ly が付いた語。context はラテン語 contextus「織り合わされたもの」由来で、con-「共に」+ texere「織る」が核。文脈とは文をつなぐ“織物”だと見える。text や textile も同根。
`Contextually` comes from `context`, with the endings `-ual` and `-ly` added. `Context` goes back to Latin `contextus`, meaning "a joining together" or "something woven," from `con-` "together" and `texere` "to weave." The history shows the idea of words and meanings being woven together, like in `text` and `textile`.
