yammeringはyammer＋-ing。yammerは中世オランダ語jammerenや古英語geomrian「嘆く」にさかのぼり、もとは悲しんで泣きわめく響きでした。そこから「ぐちぐちうるさくわめく」に広がり、German Jammerとも同根です。
