yodeling は yodel + -ing で、yodel はドイツ語・スイス方言系 Jodel / jodeln に由来する。jo と声を張る山の呼び声から発達した語で、yodeler や yodel と同根。「音程をひっくり返して呼ぶ」感じが、そのままヨーデルの歌い方になる。
