Yodeling is a style of singing in which the voice changes quickly between low and high notes. It is especially connected with traditional music from mountain regions such as the Alps.

yodeling は yodel + -ing で、yodel はドイツ語・スイス方言系 Jodel / jodeln に由来する。jo と声を張る山の呼び声から発達した語で、yodeler や yodel と同根。「音程をひっくり返して呼ぶ」感じが、そのままヨーデルの歌い方になる。
Yodeling comes from yodel plus -ing. Yodel was borrowed from German and Swiss German forms such as Jodel and jodeln, used for calling across mountains. The sound-based calling style later became the name of a singing style, and related English forms include yodel and yodeler.
