覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
まず advice（名詞「助言」）とセットで覚えると定着しやすいです。c で終わる advice は「助言そのもの」、s で終わる advise は「助言する」という動作。形がほぼ同じなので、名詞と動詞のペアとしてまとめて記憶すると混同しにくくなります。使う場面は advise someone to do や advise against ... が頻出で、「人にこうした方がいいと伝える」感じ。recommend よりも、知識や立場に基づいて少し責任を持って助言する響きがあります。

ラテン語 advisare（よく見る・考える）から古フランス語 aviser を経て英語に入った。ad-（～に向けて）+ visare（見る）で「よく見て意見を述べる」が原義。同根語に advice（助言）、vision（視覚）がある。
"Advise" came into English through Old French aviser, from Latin roots linked to looking or considering carefully. The sense was originally close to "look at closely" or "think about." From there it developed into the idea of giving an opinion after careful thought, and it is closely related to advice.
