If something is inadvisable, it is not a wise or suitable thing to do. The action may be possible, but it is likely to cause problems or bring a bad result.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
まず核は advise「助言する」。そこから advisable は「助言として勧められる＝無難でよい」、先頭に in- が付くと評価がひっくり返って「勧めにくい」と取れる。not good ほど強い断定ではなく、「やめた方がいい」「得策ではない」という慎重な言い方で、an inadvisable decision / it would be inadvisable to ... の形で出やすい。unwise と近いが、inadvisable は“助言ベースで止める”感じが残ると覚えると使い分けやすい。
Think of `advise` first. If something is `advisable`, it is a good idea according to advice; with `in-`, `inadvisable` means it is not a wise choice. It often appears in careful warnings like `It would be inadvisable to...`, which sounds softer and more formal than `don't do it`.

inadvisable は in-「否定」+ advisable「勧めるのに適した」で、「勧めるべきでない」という語です。advisable は advise + -able から成り、advise は古フランス語 aviser を経て「よく見て考える」が核にあります。つまり inadvisable は「考えてみると勧められない」と理解できます。関連語は advice, revise です。
