文法用語の antecedent は、代名詞・関係詞などが後から参照する、文中の先行する名詞句です。her, it, which などの指示先を確定し、数・性・人称の一致を判断するための、読解と英文法で使う専門語です。
An antecedent is a thing, event, or condition that came before another and may be related to it. It is often used in formal writing, history, and logic. In grammar, an antecedent is the word that a pronoun refers to.
