atomization はギリシャ語 atomos「切れないほど小さいもの」に由来する atom に、動詞化 -ize と名詞化 -ation が付いた語。a-「否定」+ tom-「切る」なので、「これ以上切れないほど細かくして霧にする」と考えると意味がつかめる。関連語に anatomy, tome。
Atomization comes from atom, with the English suffixes -ize and -ation added. Atom goes back to Greek atomos, meaning "uncuttable," from a- "not" and temnein, "to cut."
