blueprint は blue「青い」と print「刷ったもの」の複合語で、設計図を青地に白線で複写した cyanotype に由来します。print や imprint と同じ print 系の語で、もとは文字どおり「青い印刷物」だったから、今では比喩的に「計画の青写真」まで表すのです。
