A bookworm is a person who loves reading and spends a lot of time with books. It is an informal and usually positive word for someone who reads very often.
She's a real bookworm.
Split it into `book` + `worm`. Picture a worm that stays inside books all day, and the image is easy to remember. A `reader` just reads, but a `bookworm` reads a lot and loves being surrounded by books.
My sister is such a bookworm that she reads three books a week.
The bookworm spent all her free time in the library.
As a true bookworm, he always carries a book with him.

Bookworm is a compound of book and worm. Book comes from Old English boc, and worm comes from Old English wyrm. It first meant an insect that damages books, then later was used for a person who is always reading. Related compounds like bookish and woodworm show the same pattern.
