解説 Definition
二つ以上の出来事・状態・処理などが、同じ時期に並行して起こることを表す形容詞です。厳密に全く同時である場合だけでなく、時間的に重なって進行している場合にも使われます。日程、法律上の刑期、情報処理など幅広い文脈で用いられます。
Concurrent means happening at the same time as something else. It is often used for events, processes, jobs, or courses that continue in parallel. The word is common in formal, academic, and technical writing.

concurrent は「複数のものが同じ期間に並んで進む」とまとめて覚えると定着しやすい。current を知っていれば「今進んでいる流れ」が土台にあり、con- が付いて「流れが複数ある」感じになる。concurrent meetings, concurrent users, concurrent processing など、会議・利用者・処理が並行する場面でよく出る。simultaneous よりも“完全に同時”に限定されず、時間が重なって進行していれば使える点が重要。consecutive は「連続して」で別語なので混同注意。
Use current as your memory base: something current is happening now. With con-, think of several things running at the same time, side by side. Be careful not to confuse it with consecutive, which means one after another, not in parallel.

concurrent はラテン語 concurrere 由来で、con-（共に）+ currere（走る）の組み合わせです。current や occur と同じ curr- をもち、「物事が一緒に走り込んでくる」イメージから「同時に起こる」の意味になります。
Concurrent comes from Latin concurrere, made from con- meaning "together" and currere meaning "to run." It first suggested things running together toward the same point. From that image, it developed the meaning of happening at the same time or existing alongside something else. It shares its root with current and occur.
