A conglomeration is a large group or collection of different things gathered together. It is often used when the parts seem mixed, varied, or not very organized. The word is common in formal writing about people, ideas, businesses, or objects.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
con- は「一緒に」の感覚、-tion は名詞語尾と押さえると、まず「何かが集まってできたもの」と捉えやすいです。意味は単なる group より雑多で、いろいろな要素が寄せ集まって一体化した感じ。business では a media conglomeration / a business conglomeration のように「複合企業体」で出やすいです。confuse しやすいのは aggregation で、こちらは単に集積した感じ、conglomeration は異質なものが混ざった大きな塊というニュアンスが強めです。
Notice con- for "together" and -tion for a noun. That gives the idea of many things brought together into one whole. Unlike a simple group, a conglomeration often feels mixed, varied, and made of different kinds of parts.

conglomerationはラテン語con-「共に」+ glomerare「玉に丸める」が語源で、さらにglomus「球・かたまり」にさかのぼる。ばらばらのものを丸めて一塊にする感覚が「集合体」につながり、agglomerateやglomerulusが近縁語。
Conglomeration goes back to Latin con-, meaning "together," and glomerare, meaning "to roll into a ball," from glomus, "ball" or "mass." The basic image is separate things being rolled together into one lump. Related words such as agglomerate and glomerulus keep the same idea of a clustered mass.
