corporate はラテン語 corpus「身体」から作られた corporare「一つの体にする」→ corporatus に由来します。corp- は「体」の語根で、別々の人や組織が一つの身体のようにまとまるのが原感です。corporation や corporeal も同根で、「会社の」という意味が腑に落ちます。
