disingenuous はラテン語 ingenuus「率直な、生まれの自由な」に、否定・逆転の dis- が付いた語です。もとは「率直さから外れた」が核で、そこから「腹に一物ある、不誠実な」へ。ingenuous や ingenue も同じ語根です。
Disingenuous comes from dis- plus ingenuous. Ingenuous comes from Latin ingenuus, meaning "free-born," and later "frank" or "open."
