覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
dis-「分けて」+ sect「切る」から、切り分けて中を調べるイメージで覚えます。語末の /ts/ は「ツ」に近い響きです。
The parts dis- and sect suggest “cut apart”: picture cutting something into parts to examine it. The final /ts/ sounds like the ending of cuts.
例文
The biologist carefully dissects the specimen to study its anatomy.
その生物学者は、標本の体の構造を調べるために慎重に解剖します。

dissects の語源・成り立ち Etymology
ラテン語 dissecare から。dis-(離して・分けて)+ secare(切る)で「切り分ける」が原義。科学的に細部まで分析する意味にも拡張。関連語: section(切り取られた部分→区分)、bisect(二つに切る)。secare の語根は insect(体が切れ込んだ虫)にも見られる。
Dissects is formed by adding the third-person singular ending -s to dissect. Dissect entered English from Latin dissecare, built from dis-, “apart,” and secare, “to cut.” Its original sense is therefore “to cut apart.” The same Latin cutting root appears in section and bisect. The verb later developed the figurative meaning of separating a subject into its components for detailed analysis.
