enraging は en-「〜にする」+ rage「激怒」から成り、rage は古フランス語 rage、さらにラテン語 rabies「狂気」にさかのぼります。rage や rabid も同根で、核は理性が荒れる状態です。だから enrage は「怒りの中へ入れる」、つまり「激怒させる」になります。
