An erector is a person, company, or machine that puts up or builds something, especially a structure. The word is often used in construction and engineering. In anatomy, it can also appear in names of muscles that lift or straighten a body part.

Erector comes from Latin erigere, meaning "to set upright" or "raise up." That verb is built from e- "up/out" and regere "to guide straight," the same root seen in erect and direct.
