extracting の語源・成り立ち Etymology
extracting はラテン語 extrahere（外へ引き出す）にさかのぼり、ex-「外へ」＋ trahere「引く」から成ります。-ing は動作の進行・名詞化で、attract や tractor と同じ「引く」語根なので、「中から引っぱり出す」で「抽出する」と腑に落ちます。
