固体や液体の物質を加熱してガスに変換するプロセスのこと。
Gasification is the process of changing a solid or liquid material into gas by using very high heat. The term is mainly used in industry, energy production, and environmental discussions.

gas が核。まず gasify を「ガス化する」と押さえ、そこに -ation が付いて「その過程・作用」を表す名詞になった形だと見ると、gasification は自然に「ガス化プロセス」と取れる。solidification（固化）や liquefaction（液化）など、状態変化を表す名詞群とセットで並べると記憶しやすい。実際には coal/biomass/waste gasification のように原料名と結びつきやすい。gaseous は「気体の」という形容詞で別物。evaporation のような単なる蒸発ではなく、工業的に物質をガスへ変換する場面でよく出る語だと意識すると混同しにくい。

gasification の語源・成り立ち Etymology
gasificationはgasify＋-ationから成り、gasは17世紀にフランドル系化学者が作った語で、ギリシャ語chaosに触発されたとされます。-ifyはラテン語facere「作る」に由来するので、文字通り「物をガスに作り変えること」。関連語はgaseous, gasify。
Gasification is built from gasify plus the noun ending -ation. Gas was coined in the 17th century by the chemist Jan Baptista van Helmont, probably inspired by Greek chaos, while -ify comes from Latin facere, "to make." The word therefore developed with the sense of "making into gas," and it is related to gaseous and gasify.
