Memory Tip
a gossipy coworker, a gossipy magazine, gossipy conversation
If you know `gossip`, `gossipy` is easy. The `-y` ending means "full of that feeling" or "having that quality," like `rainy` or `sleepy`. It helps to compare it with `chatty`: `chatty` is just talkative, but `gossipy` is talkative about other people's private matters.

Etymology
Gossipy comes from gossip, which goes back to Old English godsibb, formed from god- and sibb, meaning a relative or close relation. It first referred to a sponsor at baptism or a close family friend. Because such close people often talked intimately together, the word gradually shifted toward the idea of casual talk and then rumor-sharing. Related words from the same root include sibling and sib.
