Headstrong describes someone who is very determined to do what they want and does not easily accept advice or control. It is often used when a person is stubborn in a confident or impulsive way. The word can sound critical, but it can also suggest strong will.

strong-willed を知っていれば覚えやすく、そこに head が付くと「自分の頭で決めた方向へ強く突っ込む」感じ。単なる stubborn が「てこでも動かない」なら、headstrong は忠告を聞かず、自分の判断を押し通して先に進んでしまう少し危うい頑固さ。a headstrong child / teenager / leader のように、人の助言を受け流しがちな人物に使われやすい。褒め言葉寄りの determined や strong-willed と違って、扱いにくさや無謀さがにじむ語だと覚えると残りやすい。
Think of `strong-willed`, then add `head` to suggest someone who follows their own head. A `headstrong` person does not easily listen to advice and pushes ahead anyway. It is close to `stubborn`, but often sounds more impulsive and harder to control.
