体温が異常に高くなる症状。熱中症など、体の冷却機能が追いつかない状態。
Hyperthermia is a medical condition in which the body becomes dangerously overheated and its temperature rises too high. It is usually caused by heat exposure or the body's inability to cool itself, not by an infection like a fever.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
hyper- は hyperactive の「行きすぎた」、therm は thermometer や thermal の「熱」。この2つを合わせて、「熱がある」ではなく「体の熱が危険なくらい上がりすぎた状態」と一気に覚えると残りやすい。対になる hypothermia は hypo-「低い」で真逆の低体温症なので、語頭の hyper / hypo を見た瞬間に上下を判別する癖をつける。heat stroke や severe overheating の説明で出やすく、単なる fever より深刻な医療語だと押さえると使い分けしやすい。
Break it into `hyper` + `therm` + `-ia`. `Hyper` means too much, like in `hyperactive`, and `therm` is heat, like `thermometer` or `thermal`. To remember it clearly, pair it with `hypothermia`: `hyper-` is high, `hypo-` is low.

hyperthermia はギリシャ語 hyper-「過度に」+ therme「熱」+ -ia「状態」に由来します。thermal や thermostat も同じ therm 系で、「熱が普通より上に振れた状態」だと考えると高体温症の意味がそのまま見えます。
