無常

物事が永続しないこと。仏教の根本概念で、すべては移り変わるという教え。
Impermanence means the state of not lasting forever. It refers to the idea that things change, end, or disappear over time. The word is common in thoughtful, philosophical, or religious discussions.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
まず permanent「永続する」を土台にすると覚えやすいです。im- が付くと否定になり、「永続しないこと」＝ impermanence。permanent marker の permanent と同じ核だと結びつけると強いです。名詞なので the impermanence of life / all things の形で出やすく、temporary のような一時的な状態よりも、「人や世界は本質的に移ろう」という哲学的・仏教的な響きがあります。impermanent（形容詞）と permanence（反対語）を並べて覚えると混同しにくいです。
Build it from permanent. Add im- for the negative idea, and you get 'not permanent.' The noun ending -ence makes it the state or quality, so impermanence is easy to link with impermanent and permanence.

impermanence は im-「不・無」+ permanence「持続」から成り、permanence はラテン語 permanere「とどまり続ける」に由来します。per-「ずっと」+ manere「とどまる」を否定して「とどまり続けないこと」となり、「無常」の意味につながります。関連語に permanent、remain があります。
