覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
まず `frequent` を「頻繁な」、`frequently` を「頻繁に」とセットで覚えると、その前に否定の `in-` が付いた `infrequently` はすぐ「頻繁ではなく→まれに」と取れます。`-ly` があるので品詞は副詞、「起こる頻度」を説明する語です。`often` よりかなり低頻度で、感覚としては `occasionally` より少なく、`rarely` に近い位置。`infrequent` は形容詞、`infrequently` は動詞全体を修飾する副詞、という形の違いも一緒に押さえると混同しにくいです。
Build it from `frequent` and `frequently`, then notice the negative prefix `in-`. So `infrequently` means "not frequently." Remember also that `infrequent` is an adjective, but `infrequently` is an adverb because of `-ly`.

infrequently は in-「否定」＋frequent＋-ly。frequent はラテン語 frequens「込み合った・ひんぱんな」から来て、もとは「数が多く集まる」感じです。frequency と同根で、「多くない頻度で」つまり「まれに」と分かります。
Infrequently is made from in- "not," frequent, and -ly. Frequent comes from Latin frequens, which meant "crowded" or "repeated often." From the idea of something happening in great numbers, it developed into the sense of frequency, so infrequently means "not often" in origin.
