topographic はギリシャ語 topos「場所」+ graphein「書く・描く」+ -ic から成り、土地を「描いて記す」発想の語。topic と同じ topo-、graphic や geography と同じ graph- を含み、地形を図として写し取る意味が形から読める。
Topographic is built from Greek topos, meaning "place," and graphein, meaning "to write" or "draw," with the adjective ending -ic. It shares roots with topic and with graphic and geography.
