映像技術でのインターレース。1フレームを奇数走査線と偶数走査線に分け、時間差で交互に表示する方式です。アナログテレビや旧式ディスプレイで帯域を節約するために使われ、ちらつきや縞状の乱れも伴います。
Interlacing is the act or pattern of crossing things over and under each other so they become linked together. It is used for threads, fingers, branches, designs, and also in technical fields such as video or digital imaging. The word emphasizes a woven or connected structure.

interlacing は inter-「互いの間で」+ lace「ひもで編む・結ぶ」から成り、lace は古フランス語 lacier に由来します。lace や shoelace と同根で、線や糸が「間を横切りながら結び合う」絵が浮かぶと、編み込みや交差の意味が腑に落ちます。
