専門用語とは、特定の職業や分野で使われる特殊な言葉や技術的な表現を指します。その分野の専門家たちが効率よくコミュニケーションを取るために使われます。
Jargon is special language or vocabulary used by a particular job, group, or field. It helps people in that area communicate quickly and precisely. For people outside the group, jargon can be difficult to understand, so it is often better to avoid it in general communication.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
jargon は「その業界の人には通じるが、外の人には分かりにくい言い方」とまとめて覚えると残りやすいです。technical jargon, medical jargon のように分野名と結びつきやすく、be full of jargon や avoid jargon も頻出。単に専門用語を指す term より、「内輪向けで難しい」という響きが出やすい語です。slang がくだけた言葉なのに対し、jargon は専門的で閉じた言い回し、と対比すると混同しにくくなります。
Think of jargon as words that make sense inside one group but sound difficult outside it. It often comes with a field name, like technical jargon or medical jargon. Also remember the common pair avoid jargon, because jargon often sounds too expert-only for general readers.
