jargon の語源・成り立ち Etymology
jargon は中英語 jargoun、さらに古フランス語 jargon にさかのぼり、もとは「鳥のさえずり」「わけの分からないおしゃべり」の感覚を持つ語です。jargony や jargonize にもつながり、部外者には意味不明に聞こえる話し方から「専門用語」という意味へ発展しました。
From Middle English jargoun, borrowed from Old French jargon. It first meant birdsong or noisy, hard-to-understand talk. From that idea of speech outsiders could not follow, it later came to mean the special language of a trade or group.
