解説 Definition
山や川、町並みなど、土地の広がりをひとまとまりとして見たときの景色を指す名詞です。旅行や絵画、写真の説明でよく使われ、見た目の美しさだけでなく、その場所全体の眺めや特徴を述べるときにも用いられます。特に広がりのある眺望を表すことが多い語です。

オランダ語 landschap（地方の景色）から英語に借入された。land（土地）と -schap（英語の -ship に相当、状態・性質）の合成語。もとは絵画用語で「風景画」を意味し、そこから眺望・状況全体へ意味が広がった。関連語: land（土地）、kinship（親族関係、同じ -ship 接尾辞）。
The word was borrowed from Dutch landschap, formed from land and -schap, an ending corresponding to English -ship. It first referred to landscape painting and then came to mean the view itself.
