緩い
解説 Definition
緩いとは、きつくなく、ゆるく、厳しくないことを意味します。ロープが緩い、ルールが緩いなど、物理的にも抽象的にも使われます。
If a person, rule, or system is lax, it is not strict or careful enough. This word is often used when people do not control behavior, safety, or standards strongly enough. It usually has a negative meaning.

`relax` を知っていれば覚えやすい語です。`re-lax` は「再びゆるめる」感じなので、核にある `lax` 自体が「ゆるい」を表します。物の状態なら rope is lax のように「張っていない」、ルールや態度なら「厳しくない・だらしない」に広がります。`strict` の反対側に置くと記憶しやすく、特に `lax security` `lax rules` のように「管理や基準が甘い」という文脈でよく出ます。`relaxed` は好意的でも、`lax` は批判的になりやすい点にも注意です。
