メルド、札の組
noun 名詞ラミーなどのカードゲームで、同じ数字の組や同一スートの連続札など、規則上有効な札のまとまりを指します。make a meld のように使い、その組を作って場に出すことを表します。
複数の物や考えが溶け合うように一体化すること。それぞれの特徴を残しながら、調和した全体を作る場合に使う。
To combine different things or ideas so closely that they form a harmonious whole. The original features may remain noticeable even as the boundaries between them become less distinct.
meld は melt(溶ける)と blend(混ぜる)を連想すると意味をつかみやすいが、語源上その二語の合成とは断定できない。meld A with B(AをBと融合させる)、meld into one(一つに融合する)が定番で、単なる mix より「境目が消えて一体になる」と覚えるとよい。
Think of "melt" and "blend" as sound-based reminders, but not as the word's actual origin. Picture two colors flowing together while each still contributes to the final result. Remember the patterns "meld A with B" and "meld into one."
The music melds jazz with folk traditions.
その音楽はジャズと民俗音楽の伝統を融合させている。
The two colors meld into one.
その二つの色は一つに融合する。
Their ideas melded into a single plan.

The origin of this fusion sense is uncertain. The source's card-game derivation from German "melden," meaning to announce or report, concerns a distinct historical verb and does not safely explain this sense.
