同化させる、自国語化する

解説 Definition
外国人に法的に国籍を与えて市民として認めること、または外来の動植物が新しい土地の環境に適応して自生・定着することを表す語。法律と生態学の両方で使われ、文脈によって「帰化する」にも「帰化させる」にもなる。
To naturalize means to officially give someone citizenship in a country where they were not born, or to become a citizen in that way. It is mainly used in legal and government contexts. In biology, it can also mean a plant or animal becomes established in a new place.

natural が入っているので、「その土地にとって自然な一員にする／なる」とつなげると覚えやすい。人なら naturalized citizen で「帰化した市民」、国が人を naturalize すれば「帰化させる」。動植物なら foreign species が新天地に定着して naturalize。-ize は「〜化する」の定番。natural-born citizen は生まれつきの国民で、naturalized citizen は後から法的に加わった人、という対比も一緒に押さえると混同しにくい。
