parody は有名な作品や表現をまねて、こっけいに作り替えた作品や表現という意味です。日本語の「パロディ」とほぼ同じですが、英語では名詞として作品そのものを指すことが多いです。

ギリシャ語 paroidia に由来し、para-「わきに・ずらして」＋ oide「歌」から成ります。元は「本歌を少しずらして歌うこと」で、そこから物まねして笑いに変える「パロディ」の意味になり、関連語に ode があります。
Parody comes through Latin and French from Greek parōidia. The Greek word combines para-, conveying beside or in alteration of something, with ōidē, “song” or “ode.” It originally referred to a song composed or performed in imitation of another, with changes that produced a comic effect. The meaning later broadened beyond songs to literature, drama, film, advertising, and other forms that imitate a recognizable model humorously or critically.
