説得せっとくされた

解説 Definition

persuaded は persuade「説得する」の過去形・過去分詞です。受け身では、理由や働きかけ、話し合いを通じて考えを受け入れたり行動を起こしたりするよう「説得された」ことを表します。

Persuaded is the past form and past participle of persuade. In passive use, it means having been influenced through reasoning, urging, or discussion to accept an idea or take a particular action.

使い方 Usage

  • be persuaded to+動詞の原形で「〜するよう説得される」。by+人で説得した相手を示せます。 Use be persuaded to followed by a base-form verb for being persuaded to act. Add by followed by a person to identify who did the persuading.

使い分け Common distinctions

  • convince は納得や信念の変化に、persuade は行動や決断に重点を置くことが多いですが、用法は重なります。 Convince often emphasizes acceptance or a change in belief, while persuade often emphasizes action or a decision. Their uses overlap.

覚え方のコツ Memory Tip

persuade に -d を付けて persuaded。原形の語末が /d/ なので、付けた語尾は /ɪd/ と発音します。理由や働きかけで心が動き、決断に至る場面を思い浮かべましょう。

Add -d to persuade to form persuaded. Because persuade ends in the sound /d/, the added ending is pronounced /ɪd/. Picture someone’s mind being moved by reasons or urging toward a decision.

例文

I was persuaded to try the new app.

She was persuaded by her friend to join the club.

persuaded の語源・成り立ち Etymology

ラテン語「persuadēre」に由来し、per-(完全に)+suadēre(勧める)の構成。suadēreは印欧語根*swād-(甘い・心地よい)に遡り、「甘い言葉で心を動かす」が原義。関連語にdissuade(思いとどまらせる)やsuave(洗練された)がある。

Persuade comes through French from Latin persuadere, formed from per-, an intensifying element, and suadere, “to advise, recommend, or urge.” Suadere is associated with an older Indo-European root concerning sweetness or pleasantness, suggesting advice made appealing to its listener. The past form persuaded is created regularly by adding -d. Dissuade contains the same Latin verb but means to persuade someone not to do something.
