perverting はラテン語 vertere「向きを変える」が核で、per-「すっかり」+ vert「回す・向ける」から成る。元は「本来の向きから完全にそらす」感覚で、convert や invert も同じ語根を持つと、歪曲する意味が腑に落ちる。
Perverting comes from pervert, from Latin pervertere, made of per- "completely" and vertere "to turn." The original sense was "to turn away" or "turn upside down" from a proper direction.
