quarrel の語源・成り立ち Etymology
quarrel は古フランス語 querele「争い・苦情」から入り、ラテン語 querella「 शिकायत・不平」、queri「不満を言う」に由来します。つまり口論はもともと「不平を訴えること」だったわけです。関連語は quarrelsome, querulous。
It came through Old French querele from Latin querella, meaning “complaint or dispute,” which is related to queri, “to complain.” The original idea was expressing a grievance.
