人の意見や提案、判断が正しい・よいと思って受け入れるときに使う語です。会話で相手の考えに賛成するときや、条件・計画を承諾するときに非常によく使われます。すでにある「一致する」とは違い、こちらは相手の立場や内容を支持するニュアンスが中心です。
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
agree はまず人が相手の考えに「いいと思う」と乗る動詞として覚えると残りやすいです。I agree with you, agree to help のように、意見・提案・依頼を受け入れる場面で頻出。facts や figures が主語の「一致する」用法もありますが、この語義では情報同士が食い違わないことではなく、人の判断や意志が相手の内容にそろって賛成する感じです。反対は disagree、基本は agree with ... / agree to ...。

意見や説明、証言、数値などが食い違わず、同じ内容を示していることを表す。人どうしがある点で同じ考えに達する場合にも使えるが、ここでは特に事実や記録どうしが対応している「一致する」の意味で用いる。
To agree means to have the same opinion as someone, or to say yes to a plan, idea, or request. It is very common in conversations, meetings, and decisions. It can also mean that two things match or are consistent with each other.

agree は「賛成する」だけでなく、「複数の情報が同じ内容を示す」とまとめて覚えると残りやすい。same の感覚に近く、numbers agree, the report agrees with the witness’s account のように、数値・報告・証言が食い違わない場面でよく出る。match は形や条件がぴったり合う感じだが、agree は内容や判断が一致する感じ。主語は人でなく facts, figures, results も置ける。反対は disagree、形は agree with ... が基本。
Think of `agree` as words, numbers, or facts going the same way. It often appears with things like `the figures agree` or `the records agree with each other`. `Match` is wider, but `agree` is useful when the content does not conflict.

agree の語源・成り立ち Etymology
agree は古フランス語 agreer に由来し、a-「〜へ」+ gré「好み・意志」から成るので、原義は『人の気持ちに合う』。gré はラテン語 gratus「喜ばしい」に通じ、grateful や gratitude と同根だから、『同意する』は相手の考えを快く受け入れる感覚だと見えてくる。
