agreement は agree + -ment で、agree は古フランス語 agreer、さらにラテン語 gratus「心地よい」にさかのぼります。grace や grateful と同系で、「相手にとって快い状態になること」が「意見の一致」になった語です。
"Agreement" is built from "agree" and the noun ending "-ment." "Agree" came through Old French and goes back to Latin "gratus," meaning pleasing or welcome, the same root seen in "grace" and "grateful." The sense developed from being pleasing or acceptable to someone into being of one mind with them.
