accept はラテン語 accipere に由来し、ad-「〜へ」+ capere「つかむ」で、原義は「自分の側へ取る」。capture や capable も同じ cap 系で、差し出されたものを手に取る感覚から「受け入れる」へ広がった。
Accept comes from Latin accipere, built from ad- meaning "to" and capere meaning "to take."
