朗読
解説 Definition
詩や文学作品などを声に出して読む行為、またはそのように読まれる作品。朗読。
Recitations are spoken performances of something that has been written or memorized, such as a poem, text, or speech. This word is common in school, religion, and formal events. It usually suggests saying the words clearly in front of others.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
まず recite を核で覚える。学校で poem や lines を人前で言う場面を思い浮かべるとよく、ただ読むより「暗唱する・声に出して述べる」感じが強い。read aloud が文章を見ながら読むのに対し、recite は覚えて言う場面や改まった朗読で出やすい。recitation はその行為や発表そのもの、recitations はその複数。poetry recitation, a recitation contest で固めると残りやすい。なお recital は音楽会寄りで別語。
Build from `recite`, which is stronger than just `read`. It often suggests saying lines, poems, or texts aloud from memory or in a formal way. Remember fixed phrases like `poetry recitation` or `recitation contest`, and do not confuse it with `recital`, which is usually for music.

recitations の語源・成り立ち Etymology
ラテン語 recitare(re-「再び」+ citare「呼び出す、引用する」)に由来。声に出して読み上げることが原義。関連語に cite(引用する)、excite(興奮させる=外に呼び出す)がある。「再び声に出して呼ぶ」から朗読・暗唱の意味が生まれた。
`Recitation` comes from Latin `recitare`, made from `re-` “again” + `citare` “to call, summon, or quote.” The early sense was reading aloud or calling words out clearly. From that, it developed into the idea of repeating a text from memory; related English words include `cite` and `excite`.
