ラテン語 revidēre（再び見る）からフランス語 revue を経て英語に。re-（再び）+ vidēre（見る）の構成で、「見直す・再検討」が原義。関連語：vision（視覚）、preview（予告）。何度も見直して評価するからレビューと呼ぶ。
